NOT-ella – a Nutella alternative
Often a household staple, Nutella is know the world over. However, when you begin to look into what is in it and what you’re ingesting you may not feel so excited about it. You can read more info on it here. A lot of this is hear say and please do your own research but regardless of that it contains a LOT of sugar. So here is my version NOT-ella…get it? and I feel it is a very close 2nd.
I adore this on pancakes, recipe here, and is a nice dessert too when placed in an espresso cup (above) and served with a little spoon!
Ingredients:
(makes 1-2 portions)
2 tablespoons of Nut butter of choice, make sure it is a smooth butter and has no added sugar. Hazelnut will be the closest in flavour but I find peanut works just fine.
1 tablespoon of Olive Oil/Coconut Oil/Oil of choice. Try and always get cold pressed, extra virgin oils.
1 tablespoon of Mayple Syrup/Honey
4 squares of 70%+ chocolate, or 1 tablespoon of cacao.
Method:
Using a small pan on a very low heat add the oil (if you want a thicker consistency add less oil).
Add the rest of the ingredients and stir well until the chocolate is fully melted.
Transfer into a clean jar or eat directly from the pot (No I have never done this I swear…)
Dietary Information:
Refined Sugar free
Dairy free (if you use high % chocolate)
Gluten Free
Wheat Free
Vegetarian
Vegan
Paleo (if you don’t use peanut butter)
Dark Chocolate is high in antioxidants and good fats
Nuts are high in EFA (essential fatty acids)
Better than Nutella!
